We are forward-looking

The fact that society must adapt in a different way now and in the future, compared to the past, is clear to most people. We at Moss harbor represent part of the society that is part of the solution going forward.

Transport and infrastructure are important in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and opportunities to reach the world-wide goal, EU objectives and national goals. Of the UN's 17 sustainability goals, objective 9 is linked to Innovation and Infrastructure.

The goal is to "build solid infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and contribute to innovation". Infrastructure is the underlying structure that must be in place for a society to function. Infrastructure is a prerequisite for increasing growth and productivity. Technology and innovation can help solve environmental challenges that follow the development of infrastructure.

Achieving internal environmental goals

Both through the state budget and other objectives, our authorities express that the transfer of goods from road to sea and runway is important. It both increases transport safety and reduces both wear and tear on the road network and the environmental impact of the transport sector. Through technology and innovation we experience that it is profitable to move goods to sea at ever shorter distances. Well-functioning ports are essential to achieve these set goals.

In the same way that we deliver infrastructure that contributes to the environmental goals for the transport sector through the social mission, it is important to achieve internal environmental goals in the operation. Therefore, the Port of Moss is KF environmental lighthouse certified (which we have been 10 years) and therefore environmental goals are a central part of our strategic plan. Fossilfire solutions are sought to cover our internal transport needs and in 2018 we reached the goal of only fossil-free cars. In addition, bicycles are actively used, fossil-free tested for other machines and employees are encouraged to travel environmentally friendly to and from the workplace.

Eco-Lighthouse certification

Through the Eco-Lighthouse certification, energy consumption and waste management are put on the agenda.
Moss harbor also participates actively in research and development projects. During 2019, shore power will be established as an offer to ships that can connect at landing points.
More about environmental performance can be found in our annual reports.
